Cookie policy
Last updated: 22 March 2026
1. Introduction
This policy explains how Little Theatre Group uses cookies and similar technologies when you use this website. Little Theatre Group uses Backstage Platform to host and run parts of its public site and member tools. It should be read alongside any privacy information your society provides for its own processing of member data.
2. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a site. They are widely used to make sites work, keep you signed in, improve security, and (where you agree) understand how services are used. We also use similar browser storage (such as local storage) to remember your cookie choices without setting an extra consent cookie.
3. How you can control cookies
- When you first visit, you will see a cookie banner where you can accept all cookies, use essential cookies only, or open Cookie preferences to choose optional categories.
- You can reopen Cookie settings at any time from the floating control (when visible) or from links in our sign-in and footer areas.
- You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the service (such as signing in) may not work.
4. Categories we use
4.1 Strictly necessary
These are required to operate the platform securely and to provide features you ask for. They do not require consent under UK / EU rules, but we list them here for transparency.
| Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| backstage_session | Keeps you signed in after you authenticate (society or platform admin session). HTTP-only and secure in production where configured. | Up to 7 days (session lifetime) |
| Server / infrastructure | Our hosting may set short-lived cookies or headers for security, routing, or abuse protection (e.g. rate limiting). | Session or short-lived |
4.2 Functional (optional)
If you enable this category, we may store non-essential preferences in your browser (for example UI choices) to improve your experience. We only expand this category as we add features and will update this policy when we do.
4.3 Analytics (optional)
If you enable analytics, we may use cookies or similar technologies to collect aggregated usage information so we can improve reliability and product design. We do not use this category to sell data or to build advertising profiles. If we introduce a specific analytics tool, we will name it here and respect your preference.
5. Third parties
5.1 Stripe (payments)
When a society collects card payments (for example membership fees), Stripe may set cookies or use similar technologies on their own domains to prevent fraud, process payments, and meet legal obligations. Those technologies are controlled by Stripe and are typically considered necessary for the payment you initiate. See Stripe’s cookie policy for details.
5.2 Email delivery
If your society sends email through our integrations (e.g. invitations), the provider may process technical data in line with their own policies; that processing is usually not controlled by cookies in your browser in the same way.
6. Children and schools
Societies using Backstage Platform are responsible for their own membership and safeguarding policies. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has interacted with the service, contact the society in the first instance.
7. Changes
We may update this policy when we change how cookies are used or add new features. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy where permitted by law; material changes to optional processing will be reflected in the cookie banner where required.
8. Contact
For questions about how Little Theatre Group uses cookies on this website, contact the society’s committee. Backstage Platform provides the hosting and core platform infrastructure for this site. For society-specific personal data questions, contact the society’s data controller (usually the committee or treasurer as described in their privacy notice).
